Freya at the MOBO Awards 2012

On Saturday night I was lucky enough to get a red carpet pass to the MOBO Awards in Liverpool at The Echo Arena with the fabulous Freya team!! Freya were backstage in the VIP area with their amazing travelling Freya Bra Booth handing out lingerie goody bags, bra fittings and underwear advice to the stars and their dancers. Talk about bras for the stars!

I have to say deciding what to wear was a slight drama – even in my role as a personal shopper for My Style Companion! I had been so busy with personal shopping appointments with clients that (as usual) I had no time to work out my own outfit (the hazards of being a personal shopper I’m afraid). However I pulled out my favourite AW12 McQ feather dress by Alexander McQueen and decided that was a winner – I wanted to go for a more relaxed urban ‘red carpet’ vibe rather than the usual glitz and glamour. However at the end of summer I wore this dress with nude peep toes and a nude blazer and realised that at minus three degrees, I may need something warmer for my feet and arms seeing as I would be standing next to the River Mersey!

Well, I’ve been back from my summer holiday for nearly a month now, and I’ve only just managed to catch up with all the inevitable post-vacation emails/washing/general settling back in to the old routine. I had a fabulous break, but within days of returning I was feeling horribly stressed again, so I had a serious sit down to consider what bits about being on holiday made me so relaxed, and what elements of them I could try and hold on to in my everyday life. Here are some of the conclusions I came to- there are no earth shattering revelations but it’s sometimes easy to forget how the little things really improve our quality of life.

Freya Active for NetballRecently I discovered a load of old workbooks from junior school when having a clear out – it’s so funny to read who I was at the ages of 4 – 7! Let’s just say I had quite an imagination! Thinking back evoked memories of what I used to love doing as a kid, such as playing the piano, dancing and playing netball after school with my pals. Funny how I had completely lost my passion for those things in my grumpy teenage years, but in my 30s, I am re-discovering my love for hobbies I had as a child (or maybe I just never grew up!)

The trip down my memory lane of hobbies-gone-by led me to interview Joanna Blain who is the Founder of Play Simple Netball, a social netball league with nearly 100 teams playing in leagues across Manchester and Liverpool. I wanted to see if netball is still a hobby I could take up now, at the age of (nearly, not yet!) 32, and with Freya as the official partner to the England Team, it seemed like the obvious thing to do, as I need lots of excuses to buy Freya Active Wear! Contrary to the image my other posts may portray, I do occasionally wear clothes other than workout gear. Honestly.

This month I went to a brilliant event down at Farm Club, a local project where I spend a lot of time with the Mini Divas, family and friends. We grow our own veg and have animals on the farm that we all help to look after, and take a share in the meat and produce. Kids learn about cookery and where their food comes from, we have a members breakfast every Sunday, learn about what to plant and when, and generally have a lot of fun. More
